Meet Temperance Veranda Banner, a woman whose childhood was marked by abuse, disparity, and hopelessness. She believes her only hope for survival lies within herself as she has dismissed God as sleeping both in the neighborhood in which she was raised and in her life as a whole. Nonetheless her strong will and determination to survive allow her to conquer a world where so many have succumbed. Temperance blossoms into an intelligent woman with a successful career who finds temporary solace in material gains and monetary wealth. However, the subdued brokenness of a little girl continues to plague her life and threatens to shatter the perfect world that she has created. After several life-altering experiences, she is forced to make some crucial decisions. Will she find a way to mend her soul and forgive those who have wronged her? Or will she continue down a road of self-destruction, never awakening the sleeping God within her?
When God Sleeps eBook Rose Rodriquez Marion Designs Brooke Smith
When God Sleeps by Rose Rodriguez is a gut-wrenching reading journey inside a young girl's life. Temperance Veranda Banner is the oldest daughter born to a crack-addicted mother. Her pain literally leaps from the page as she reveals how many nights she falls asleep hungry. How she sacrifices her own meals to feed her brother and sister. My heart broke reading about the many nights they were alone in their crime-ridden neighborhood while her mom was away from home. Temperance has a firm belief that God is asleep, that he does not exist, especially in her neighborhood. The one saving grace is that Temperance is an excellent student who understands that education is her ticket to a better life.Through sheer will and determination Temperance creates a good life for herself through education and hard work. For many years, she feels that material wealth and status will fill the hole in her soul. She spends many years consumed with an inability to forgive or forget. After a series of life-altering situations, she has to determine for herself if God sleeps or if he has always been awake.
I loved the emotion running through the pages of When God Sleeps. The words painted all too real pictures of what goes on in many communities today. Also, accurately portrayed is how many people struggle daily with the concept of simply believing and relying on God. When God Sleeps is a recommended read for readers who love a story of overcoming the direst circumstances while revealing how faith and redemption ultimately work in the lives of those who do not always believe.
