"A candid story of resilience amidst life’s extreme adversities."--Brahma Kumari Shivani, Spiritual Counsellor, India
"Betty Steinhauer is a terrific role model for any woman who yearns to experience life outside the box and create her own adventure."--Susan Clark, actress/producer/activist, Los Angeles, USA, and Toronto, Canada
"This splendid book is an essential template for life’s journey, loaded with fascinating insights through a universal view of the world."--Dr Bill Hogarth, Chair, Seneca College, Toronto, Canada; Director of Education (retired), Province of Ontario, Canada
Betty Steinhauer’s remarkably honest autobiography is an extraordinary journey of a woman’s head and heart in the face of adversities—and a quest for perfect love.
Betty’s learning about accepting began early. She was raped when she was 13. At 15, she lost her father and had to pick up the reins of the household, with her mother perpetually ill and suffering from schizophrenia. More heartbreak followed. Her first love died in a car crash. And then, the loss of a child and her growing career took a toll on her marriage. She built her business, working with the leading lights of Canada’s private and public sector, and came to be referred to as “orchestra leader” and “the one who pulls the strings”. Simultaneously, her People’s Bridge Charitable Foundation facilitated far-reaching changes in the lives of ordinary people on four continents.
This is the story of a life lived with passion, courage and attitude, a treasure hunt for the meaning of living and loving that spans the globe, with India at its center. My Way will be an inspiration to any woman seeking to forge her own destiny and identify the joy within.
My Way eBook Betty Steinhauer
Some people will not read this book because it is an autobiography written by a woman who is not "famous", and those people would be missing out on a great spiritual journey undertaken by a remarkable woman looking for the most that one can get out of life. Betty Steinhauer overcame the challenges, negativity and general adversity that so many face in life, but used each experience to learn from and come out the other side stronger, more convinced than ever in the beauty of the world and the profond shared humanity that connects us all. Reading this "pageturner" is like having a wonderful meal with a dear friend... there are moments when you can see the author sitting across from you smiling as she relates her journey through countless countries, love affairs, business and social ventures, and revelations that brought her the sense of peace and optimism that she wants to share with the world now. From India to Iceland, Betty's wanderlust is fascinating to follow as it is the exterior manifestation of a soul in full flight, always seeking to understand and appreciate those around her. There is no pretention,no judgement of others, but rather lots of thoughtful observation and questions as she builds on being a mother and businesswoman into being a student of the human condition, aided by various spiritual leaders such as the Brama Kamaris of Mount Abu, India. Her foundation brings her into direct contact with the disenfranchised of the world, and instead of dispair she finds hope and dignity, one person making a difference one village water well or lunch program at a time.
This is a book for people who are aware that there is infinately more potential to life than accepting one's fate in one corner of the world, and that through compassion, curiosity and commitment, one person can not only make a big difference, but also self actualize and achieve what every one of us are looking for in our lives... inner peace. I have the privilege of knowing Betty Steinhauer personally, and this book is really a roadmap of her own successful journey looking for inner peace, a state she has achieved after following countless roads and relationships and taking what was best from each one of them. For this reason alone, "My Way" is well worth the read... it is a remarkable tale that is well written, very easy to read, and will more than once make the reader feel the joy that comes with triumph over adversity.

My Way eBook Betty Steinhauer Reviews
The Betty I know has always been very cautious about sharing personal information. This book has been a revelation. Perhaps she has not filled in all the gaps, but that would take a much longer and thicker book than "My Way." It takes a lot of courage to put one's self out there; it is risky business. She continues to prove that "ordinary people" can do extra-ordinary things. I would recommend this book to anyone starting off in life. It proves that there is no excuse for making excuses. Betty has lived her life with the attitude, "Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead." A very good read....
Betty Steinhauer isn't what you might define as a celebrity. But she's met more than a few of them during her adventurous and eventful life.
Her encounters and relationships with the famous and near-famous are just fragments of what you'll find in her fast paced newly-published memoir My Way. Many of them are anonymous, or may appear under pseudonyms.
For her title she has, of course, taken a page from the Old Blue Eyes songbook, but there's more than a little of Kenny Rogers there too "The best you can hope for is to die in your sleep."
I met Betty about five years ago, and our paths have crossed a number of times since. My initial sense was that this was one interesting lady, but reading My Way has shown me a whole lot more. She's clearly a free spirit, with enough self-confidence to jump into the deep end without any shadow of doubt that she'll resurface.
The story of her many and often-complicated relationships with men and with spirituality - that have taken her from her Toronto home many times around the world - combined with her business and charitable ventures are quite a fascinating read. Her adventures from mountain tops in India to a seaside summer house in Newfoundland (where I met her) have been an exciting journey indeed.
This is not a travel book; it's more about her spiritual and emotional journeys than the physical places she has been. But it's a fun read, and proof that you don't need to be a celebrity to tell a very interesting tale.
